Thế Lữ (1907 - 1989) was a Vietnamese poet and author. Thế Lữ is the only one in the Tự Lực Văn Đoàn who deeply participates in all three important genres of Vietnamese modern art: lyrical poetry, prose and theatrical drama. It is respectable that in all 3 fields he is a pioneer and has brilliant achievements. Gold and blood are typical of Thế Lữ short story style with simple, rustic but full of poetic, liberal and very delicate storyline. The horror and mysteries in this book make the reader shiver as if he is standing in a world of fairies and demons; but moment back to reality to live with the writer's profound thoughts on Vietnamese society in the early decades of the 20th century.
